Valenzuela courts find new home
Valenzuela City's regional and trial courts which for so many years were housed in an old and dilapidated building have found a new home after they were transferred to the old "municipal building" purposely renovated to become the city's Hall of Justice.
Mayor Sherwin Gatchalian said the 2,700 square meters old "municipio" served as the center of government of Valenzuela City for 41 years until the city's seat of government was transferred to the new city government complex located along MacArthur Highway.
Gatchalian said that aside from the metropolitan and regional trial courts, other judicial offices such as the city prosecutor's office and the Philippine Mediation Center (PMC) will relocate to the renovated building.
The renovation which cost approximately R35 million gave the old municipal building a modern makeover with its wooden interior walls replaced with glass panelings.
"The glass interior walls is a trademark of all city government buildings to promote transparency and accountability," Preceli Canares of the city engineering office said.
Before their transfer to the new offices, the city's regional and trial courts have been holding offices in a crowded and dilapidated building beside a shopping mall along MacArthur Highway.
Aside from its poor physical condition, the former RTC and MTC offices were too far from the city government center where the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), the police headquarters and the prosecutor's office are located.
