Honasan on EDSA 1: ‘Happy anniversary’
‘’Happy Anniversary.’’
That was the curt message of Sen. Gregorio Honasan on the EDSA People Power Revolution’s 24th anniversary where he, as an Army Colonel, was with then Defense Secretary Juan Ponce Enrile in helping start the revolutionary gears that led to the downfall of the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos.
Other than this, Honasan, linked to various coup plots aimed at ousting Marcos’s successor, then President Corazon C. Aquino, refused to give more reaction to the EDSA One anniversary.
During a talk with Senate reporters after co-chairing the public hearing by the Joint Congressional Power Commission (JCPC) at the Senate building, Honasan refused to comment on the statement of President Aquino’s son, Sen. Benigno Simeon ‘’Noynoy’’ Aquino, that a wrong choice by the electorate in the May 10, 2010 national election would lead to a worse situation for the country.
‘’I would be too presumptuous to comment on a statement of a presidentiable,’’
Honasan said, adding he does not give an unsolicited advice.
As a former military man and a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA), Honasan, however, supports his colleagues in the military seeking a seat in the Senate and ‘’everybody who loves this country as much as I do.’’
He was referring to senatorial bets Brig. Gen. Danny Lim and Marine Colonel Ariel Querubin, both “rightist rebels” who are still in detention for their anti-administration adventurisms.
