Multi-awarded actress Nora Aunor has been nominated in the “10 Best International Actresses of the Decade (Asia)” category in the 2010 Green Globe Film Awards.

The Green Globe Film Awards honors actors, environmentalists, and humanitarians who cross cultural, national and continental boundaries making it one of the most diverse of all Hollywood-based Film Award bodies.

Voting for the awards is targeted at an international audience and is conducted online.

The award body’s main thrust is to seemingly unite the charm of user-generated People's Choice Awards and the glitter of the Oscars, employing a multi-cultural spin.

The Awards will be presented during the March 23rd dinner gala at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel's California Ballroom in Los Angeles.

In a press release, organizers pledged part of the proceeds of the dinner/gala for a variety of eco-friendly initiatives.

"The organizing committee...will commit a portion of the proceeds from the dinner gala towards planting over 500,000 trees near the equator, purifying over 1,000,000 liters of water in places of need, establishing 10 schools in countries of crisis and providing 100 scholarships for sustainable management education. This will be accomplished through cooperation with UNICEF and a number of sustainability-related organizations."

Aunor, who has starred in more than 170 films since starting her career in the late '60s, is lauded by many as the country’s, “one and only superstar.”

Aunor’s career has been in a prolonged slump for some time after she was caught in a drug-related scandal abroad. She has recently declared a major comeback bid.

In 2008, Aunor’s film “Himala” was the lone Filipino film chosen by CNN as one of the ten best Asian films of all time from the provisional list of 18 great films (September 2008). CNN cited "Himala" for its "austere camera work, haunting score, and accomplished performances that sensitively portray the harsh social and cultural conditions that people in the Third World endure."

“Himala” was awarded the CNN APSA Viewers Choice Award for Best Asia-Pacific Film of all Time (November 14, 2008).
