Hot lumber seized in Bulacan
CAMP GENERAL ALEJO SANTOS, Bulacan — The Bulacan police scored in its continuing drive against illegally sourced lumber, seizing a truckload of the contraband Wednesday afternoon in Baliuag town.
Senior Supt. Edgardo Tinio, acting Bulacan police director, said they arrested during the operation three persons led by truck driver Armando Pavio, along with John Mike Gabating and Jerry Mangantan, all from Quirino province.
Tinio said the three were caught transporting some 12,000 board feet of illegally cut lumber loaded on a ten-wheeler truck along the Doña Remedios Trinidad Highway at the boundary of Barangays Pinagbarilan and Tarcan in Baliuag.
The suspects were arrested based on an asset’s tip that a truckload of illegally cut lumber was about to be delivered to the Tarcan Hardware in Baliuag.
Pavio, the driver, failed to produce any document for transporting the lumber. Police believe that the lumber was illegally cut in Quirino province.
