A series of earthquakes rock Mindanao
BUTUAN CITY – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said a 3.3 magnitude tremor was recorded at 3:35 a.m., 30 kilometers northeast of Butuan City, on Saturday.
Of a tectonic origin, the quake had a depth of 011.0 kilometers, Phivolcs said.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries during the pre-dawn earthquake in Butuan, the region’s Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said.
Earlier, Phivolcs also said a 5.1 magnitude earthquake struck off General Santos City at 12:18 a.m. Saturday.
The tremor was traced 74 kilometers east-southeast of General Santos City and was felt some areas in Central Mindanao including Cotabato City .
There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage from the tectonic quake that had a depth of 53.7 kilometers, the OCD also said.
On Friday afternoon, a 5.5 magnitude also struck Mati City at 4:37 p.m..
The tremor was traced 92 kilometers and 121.0 kilometers depth east of Mati, Davao Oriental.
The Philippines sits on the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire and has daily bouts with earthquakes, some of which are too weak to be felt.
Last month, 2 earthquakes also struck Agusan and Surigao which also rattled Agusan and Surigao residents.
However, OCD said no reported damages and injuries in that 2 tremors.
