Concerted effort urged for autonomy
TABUK CITY, Kalinga – In a bid to attain self-determination and sovereignty for the creation of an autonomous region in the Cordillera, the private sector should carry out an active role in the information and education campaign on autonomy.
Thus emphasized by Ifugao Gov. Teddy Baguilat Jr. adding that it is not only the Regional Development Council (RDC) and the various government line agencies that are supposed to conduct the information dissemination to the people.
Each single individual can help in rekindling our pursuit for autonomy, he pointed out.
“I am for autonomy and I am doing my part in educating our people, telling them the advantages derived from it and most especially, we should also learn from the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, instilling their best practices and leaving away the inaccuracies,” Baguilat said.
For Kalinga Gov. Floydelia Diasen, she said she is very much concerned on the issue on the environment and the rich mineral resources of the province.
It should not be exploited by multi-companies, stakeholders should be the one to manage all the rich natural wealth of region, she said.
“I advocate for a genuine autonomy for our region. There will be progress and growth thereby improving our standard of living,” Diasen said.
We can have our own laws, taxation and others for our own benefit, what we really want to do for the development of our region and our people, Diasen added.
