Edsa 1 something out of legend – ‘Mar’
"Lalaban kami (We will fight)!”
This was the highlight of the rousing speech by vice-presidential candidate Senator Manuel “Mar” Roxas II during the commemorative celebration of the 24th anniversary of the Edsa People Power Revolution held by the Liberal Party (LP) at the Araneta Colliseum, Quezon City, last Thursday.
Inside the “Big Dome” filled with yellow-clad supporters, Roxas, together with LP presidential candidate Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino, led the celebration.
During his speech, Roxas gave tribute to the valuable contribution to the Philippines by the internationally-acclaimed peaceful, non-violent 1986 Edsa 1 revolution which catapulted Noynoy’s mother, the former President Corazon Aquino, to the presidency.
“It was something out of legend. With a cast of millions, our county played a drama never seen in history- a battle between good and evil; giving and taking; between guns, goons, and gold on the one hand, and plain guts on the other,” Roxas said.
Comparing the Edsa revolution to the upcoming election, Roxas depicted it as a battlefield where the fight between good governance and the worsening corruption in the country would be decidedt by the Filipinos.
“Every generation has its Edsa, just as every “pasyon” and Calvary has its Easter Redemption…It is our time. Our time to make a difference. It is our time to show what we are made of, to show what being a Filipino is all about,” said Roxas, referring to the great role to be played by voters in the May 10 elections.
“May 10 is more than an election; It is our revolution. It is our true revolution for freedom, justice, and progress,” Roxas said.
