Families appeal for justice
Families of 27 peasants killed in two of the country’s most infamous massacres still hope to get justice but not in a government under Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, Liberal Party presidential candidate.
Leaders of the Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas and the Central Azucarera de Tarlac Labor Union said some of those wounded from the joint military-police attacks in Mendiola and Hacienda Luisita have not yet resigned from the cold cases that have heretofore failed to pinpoint the culprits and masterminds.
“Pero kung si Noynoy ang mananalo, wala na talaga kaming maaasahang katarungan. Bukod sa katarungan, tiyak rin na ang kanilang sakripisyo ay hindi mapapalitan ng tunay na repormang panlupa,” a member of the Laza family said during a recent forum in Tarlac.
Bayan Muna Rep. Teodoro Casino admitted that farmers throughout the country are not hoping of a genuine agrarian reform deal under an Aquino presidency.
“I don’t know about Aquino. What is clear to us is that (Sen. Manuel) Villar has committed to pursue genuine agrarian reform under his administration, including the physical distribution of plantations like Hacienda Luisita,” said Casino.
