Donaire, Concepcion in Manila motorcade
Manilans will get a glimpse of Filipino boxers Nonito Donaire Jr. and Bernabe Concepcion, who demolished their respective opponents during a recent boxing bonanza in Las Vegas, Nevada, as the Manila city government holds a motorcade for the duo in the city Monday.
Ric de Guzman, chief of staff of Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim, said the motorcade will start after Donaire and Concepcion pay a courtesy call on Lim at City Hall at 8 a.m. following the Monday flag-raising ceremony. Retired Col. Carlos Baltazar, head of the city’s Department of Public Services, advised motorists to expect heavy traffic in the morning along several streets in the city.
The motorcade will pass by Escolta, Dasmariñas, Avenida, C.M. Recto, Del Pan, Road 10, Tayuman, A. H. Lacson, España, Fajardo, Earnshaw, Legarda, Concepcion, and then back to City Hall, Baltazar said.
De Guzman said that based on the mayor’s orders, Donaire and Concepcion will lead the motorcade together, although on board separate vehicles, so that their fans and supporters could extend their gratitude and have a glimpse of the new Filipino boxing heroes.
Lim said he will not join either Donaire or Concepcion and would let the boxers take center stage.
“After all, they were the ones who really fought it out hard in the ring and brought pride to our country,” he said.
The mayor said the courage and determination shown by Donaire and Concepcion are worthy of emulation.
