Tamano says he’ll be gay’s voice in Senate
Nacionalista Party senatorial candidate lawyer Adel Tamano has volunteered himself to be the gay sector’s voice in the Senate.
Tamano made this statement during Ang Ladlad’s national convention last Saturday in the presence of Filipino lesbians, gays , bisexuals and transgenders (LGBTs).
Should he win a seat in the Senate, Tamano said he would make sure that the gays and lesbians would have equal opportunity to be heard in Congress.
“Being a Muslim, I, too, am a part of a minority group that is stereotyped and discriminated against like LGBTs in the country,” Tamano said.
“I know what you’re going through and I know how frustrating it is not to be heard,” he also said.
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) earlier rejected Ang Ladlad’s party list accreditation for allegedly promoting “immorality.”
The Comelec, has since then, reversed its decision and allowed Ang Ladlad to run for a party-list seat in the May 10 elections.
Tamano said the gay sector needs somebody who is an expert in representing marginalized sectors.
“It takes someone who has experienced discrimination to be able to represent marginalized sectors like LGBTs,” he said.
“I could be your voice in the Senate,” Tamano offered.
