United Opposition (UNO) president and vice presidentiable candidate Jejomar Binay stressed Wednesday the importance protecting and securing the country's so-called whistleblowers.

Whistleblowers are those who reveal or expose the wrongdoings in government. "I have observed that whistleblowers have been subjected to the worst type of harrassment," Binay said in a statement.

"The list is growing. Marlene Esperat, who exposed the fertilizer fund scam, Teofilo Mojica, who was murdered along with his family members since he was in the know about the diversion of funds at the Department of Agriculture (DA), and now Wilfredo "Boy" Mayor, who has accused the son of Mrs. Arroyo of allegedly receiving money from jueteng lords," Binay claimed.

He added that Jun Lozada, the whistleblower in the NBN-ZTE deal is now facing several cases.

Binay called on the people to protect the whistleblowers. "This administration does not care what happens to these whistleblowers, and so it is up to the people to make sure that they remain safe," he claimed.
