‘Noynoy,’ ‘Mar’ vow media transparency
If elected in the May 10 elections, the administration of Senators Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III and Manuel “Mar” Roxas II will be open and transparent to the media, whether friend or foe.
This was stressed by Liberal Party vice presidential bet Roxas even as he reiterated that he and his running mate Aquino will be easily accessible unlike the current administration in which Malacañang spokesmen conduct news briefings.
“With the current administration, it was only after almost two to three years before the media was able to face the president. It was always the spokesman—one of whom is an American citizen and then there is the economic, social, political spokesmen,” Roxas claimed.
“They were not the ones who were elected. They (the spokesmen) are not our President,” Roxas stressed.
Roxas said he and Aquino would not be "onion-skinned" to criticisms because "we understand the value of media, whether they criticize us or not, whether it is good or bad news."
"I might disagree with what you say but we will defend your right to say it," he said.
On the other hand, Aquino stressed that artificial contraception was a matter of choice and conscience and that health professionals who "fool" people into using artificial contraceptives should be penalized.
As a Catholic, Aquino said he himself was not promoting artificial contraception but believes that the government should be able to provide it to Filipinos who may ask for it.
“Let me reiterate, I'm a Catholic, I'm not promoting it. My position is more aptly called responsible parenthood rather than reproductive health,” Aquino said.
