BUTUAN CITY/GENERAL SANTOS CITY – Sarangani Governor Miguel Dominguez ordered Friday the immediate relief of the provincial jail warden and five of his guards over Thursday’s escape of Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) commander Muhammad Jaafar Maguid.
Maguid, now the subject of a massive hunt by the military’s Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMincom) based in Davao Gulf, was involved in the attack on the police station and town hall of Maasim town on Aug. 9, 2008.
Dominguez designated assistant provincial jail warden Manuel Sales Jr. as acting warden vice provincial jail warden Renato Purisima, who is now being investigated by the police and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) over Maguid’s escape around 2 a.m. Thursday.

Dominguez almost blew his top when he was informed about the escape of Maguid, a high-risk inmate who is facing murder and arson charges, for leading the attacks in Maasim which left two civilians dead.
Maguid, who was arrested on Aug. 3, 2009, escaped by sawing off the iron grills of his detention cell inside the provincial jail in Barangay Baluntay, Alabel town.
Acting jail warden Sales has ordered a stringent security measures within the jail’s premises. “The governor had already ordered the deployment of policemen to the provincial jail to augment our jail guards,” Sales said.
He admitted that the provincial jail facility lacks additional jail guards as only there are only five guards on duty every eight-hour shifting to guard more than two hundred inmates.
Joint security forces of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP) is currently conducting region-wide massive manhunt against the Maguid.
Also known as “Commander Tokboy/Tikboy”, Maguid is a rebel commander under the MILF's 105th Base Command.
