Rubilen “Bingkay” Amit remained on track for a second world title as the Cebu native stormed into the Last 24 of the 2010 Amway WPA Women’s World 9-Ball Open Saturday at the Core Pacific Living Mall Hotel in Taipei, Taiwan.

The 28-year-old Amit, looking to become the first Filipina to hold a double world title at the same time following her world 10-ball championship conquest in Manila last year, reached the Final 24 after posting a 3-2 win-loss card in the single round eliminations in Group E, which is composed of six players.

A University of Santo Tomas accounting graduate, Amit actually had the chance to automatically clinch a Last 16 berth had she won her fifth match against Group top finisher Karen Corr of Ireland, who totes a 4-1 record.

Amit opened her campaign in sizzling fashion on Thursday, posting consecutive wins at the expense of Maureen Seto of Canada, 7-1, and Kynthios Orfanidis of the Netherlands, 7-4, for a 2-0 start.

The reigning mixed doubles champion with partner pool legend Efren “Bata” Reyes, however, hit a snag on Friday following a 5-7 defeat at the hands of the host’s Yuan Chun- Lin.

But the former Makati City Call center employee turned professional pool star, bounced back with a 7-2 win over the host’s P. C. Lin in the fourth match to reach the Last 24, before losing to Korr.

Amit, who is seeking to surpass her second runner-up finish in the tourney’s 2007 edition, was playing Xiao Fang Fu of China in another race-to-seven affair at presstime.

Winner of that match faces Kelly Fisher of the United States in the Last 16. Fisher tallied 4-1 win-loss card to top the Group D match.
