‘Gibo:’ Only God can stop me from running
Lakas-Kampi-CMD standard bearer Gilberto “Gibo” Teodoro Jr. Sunday said that “only God can stop me from running’’ even as he stressed that the outcome of the votes will not be determined by opinion polls but by the country's intelligent and mature voters.
“Only God can stop me from running; He could do that by making me sick or something else,” Teodoro said in an interview over GMA-7’s telecast of UH Hiritan 2010 Friday.
In an exclusive interview during the De La Salle University (DLSU) alumni homecoming at the DLSU grounds last Saturday night, Teodoro, also known as “Gibo,’’ said that he remains unfazed by the most recent Pulse Asia survey which indicated that he still failed to reach the "two digit" mark by posting a low seven percent standing among the country's presidential bets.
But Teodoro’s standing from the Pulse Asia survey conducted last February 21 to 25 improved by two percent.
“Pababayaan ko nalang silang maglaro sa survey. Basta ako tuloy lang ang kampanya at alam ko na marami na ang sumusuporta sa akin (I will leave them alone with the surveys. I will just go on with my campaigning because I know that the number of my followers are increasing)," Teodoro said.
Asked by anchor Arnold Clavio on whether some groups have already approached him to withdraw his candidacy, Teodoro replied in the negative.
“No one has yet approached me about that matter (withdrawing from presidential race) and I will not be the one to entertain such matter,” Teodoro said.
Teodoro also pledged to fight to the very end for his myriad of supporters who have maintained their trust and faith in his candidacy.
In the same vein, the former defense chief added that he is content with the support being provided by his party, stating that he expects it to increase exponentially in the coming days.
In the same interview, Teodoro’s running mate Edu Manzano also vowed to carry on his campaign until the “final bell” as he belied talks that he is now pulling himself out of the vice-presidential race.
“I fight to win and I will carry on until the final bell regardless of the difficulties involved,” the former Optical Media Board chairman stressed.
Manzano said he was puzzled on how the media managed to get hold of his funding predicament, adding that the matter was supposed to be resolved internally in a meeting among senior party members.
Aurelio “Reli" German, Manzano’s campaign manager, had earlier announced his resentment on the party’s alleged failure to give its vice-presidential bet the “full support" it promised before the start of the campaign period. German’s allegation had been brushed aside by the Lakas-Kampi-CMD stalwarts.
