CAMP ALAGAR, Cagayan de Oro City – A president of the Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) in Lanao del Norte was gunned down by motorcycle-riding men in Sitio Mimbalot, Barangay Buruun, Iligan City, the police and military reported Sunday.

The Regional Police Command and Tactical Operation Center, here, reported that Ismael Macatoon, 42, barangay chairman of Tangklaw and ABC president of Pooana Piagapo town in Lanao del Norte, was killed around 9 p.m. last Friday.

The report said Macatoon had just left a birthday party in Linamon town and was traveling through Barangay Buruun – allegedly a known enclave of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) – when he was attacked.

However, a separate report from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) based in Lanao del Norte, identified the victim as Salim Andang Limbona.

While the surrounding circumstances related to the two reports were nearly identical, the discrepancies in name as reported by the police and the military could not be independently verified as of press time.
