James Yap dedicates ‘Best Player’ win to Tita Cory

President Corazon Aquino must be celebrating in heaven for the recent victory of her son-in-law, James Yap, who was named “Best Player of the Conference” and the “Most Valuable Player (MVP)” in the PBA finals.

James’ team, Purefoods, also scored victory over Alaska, 4-0.

The cager dedicated the recognition he received to the late Mother of Democracy, who was his number one fan.

James also shared on “The Buzz” that reading Pres. Cory’s old text messages empowered him during the game.

“Every time na may game ako, nandun ‘yung [messages niya na] do your best, nagro-rosaryo ako para sa’yo na sana hindi ka magka-injury, pati ’yung team. ‘Yun ‘yung na-miss ko [sa kanya],” he said.

His wife, Kris Aquino, tearfully recalled how big a fan her mother was of James.

“She never missed a game. Mas pipiliin niyang manood ng game ni James over my show [which was aired on the same time slot],” she said.

Meanwhile, James vehemently denied that he was the reason behind Kris’ decision to temporarily leave her late-night showbiz news show with Boy Abunda, “Showbiz News Ngayon.”

“Hindi ako ang dahilan ah. Sinong nagsabi nun?” he said, feigning to be upset.

He clarified that it was Kris’ own choice to take a leave because her heavy workload is taking its toll on her, what with her recent shower slip that caused her to badly hit her head.
