3 women stabbed to death

BAGUIO CITY — The celebration of International Women’s Day in this mountain resort city turned bloody after two teenage girls and their grandmother were stabbed to death by still unidentified assailants inside their apartment here Monday night.

Police identified the fatalities as Brigida Baro, 60, and her grandchildren Jeddah Mae Adarna Baro, 17, a freshman at the Saint Louis University, and her sister Janlie Mae, 15, a high school junior in the same school.

The victims were residents of Canario Street, Dizon Subdivision, Baguio City and were natives of Barbero Heights, Zone VII, Bangued, Abra.

Chief Supt. Orlando Pestaño, director of the Police Regional Office in the Cordillera, said probers are facing a blank wall on the case. He said there was no sign of forcible entry in the apartment while the victims’ personal belongings and other valuables were intact.

Initial investigation showed that a male friend of the sisters and their house helper sought police help after the girls’ father failed to answer his calls from overseas.

Responding policemen said they had destroy the padlock in one of the rooms in the apartment and were surprised to see the lifeless bodies of the victims, all with multiple stab wounds.

Pestaño said the barbaric killing of the three women indicated that the assailants might be under the influence of drugs, adding that one of the victims might have been raped since she was naked when found.
