‘Butz’ says Makati squabble favoring him
Saying that the squabble of two Makati mayoral candidates is to his advantage, former congressman Agapito “Butz” Aquino said he is determined to join the race in the country’s financial district.
During a press conference in Makati City, Butz said there is no stopping him to run independently in the May 10 elections, vowing to improve on the accomplishments of the city’s former mayor.
“After more than 20 years, Makati’s poor who make up the larger population of the city, remain struggling and marginalized,” Butz stressed.
Baring his platform, Aquino also vowed to make the city a healthy city, creating the acronym, Health care, Education and training, Accountability and transparency, Livelihood, Transportation and infrastructure, Housing and urban renewal and Youth.
“These programs are aimed at empowering the poor and raise their standards of living,” Aquino pointed out.
He said the parting of ways of Mayor Jejomar Binay and Vice Mayor Ernesto Mercado was also to his advantage, since voters will have an alternative candidate.
"I am confident that I will have the constituents’ vote because of their falling out. It is to my advantage," said Aquino.
Apart from Mercado and Jun-Jun Binay, son of the incumbent mayor, also targeting the city's top post is Erwin Genuino, son of Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation Chairman Ephraim Genuino.
As a three-term congressman representing Makati’s Second District, Butz put up, from 1999 to 2004, infrastructure projects such as senior citizen centers, multi-purpose buildings, pedestrian overpasses, waterwork projects, road widening projects, and drainage systems and improvements.
