Businessman hopes training centers will help Cavinti folk
CAVINTI, Laguna — A Filipino-Chinese businessman has high hopes and expectations that the two training centers he had donated in this town would help a lot of unemployed residents in Cavinti and nearby municipalities.
Manuel O. Chua, CEO and owner of Lagos Resort and Hotel in this province, said he decided to donate a lot and constructed two training centers on it to provide short-term trainings for the unemployed of Cavinti and other interested residents of this province.
Chua said unemployed residents here, including the out-of-school youth, could enroll in short-term courses like candle and soap making, vulcanizing, practical electricity, dress-making and other courses.
He also said that the two training centers, located in a land he owned, would also give a chance to some residents here, particularly those living in far-flung areas, the opportunity to become computer literate.
Cavinti residents, particularly the poor, have welcomed with great enthusiasm Chua's projects and praised him for his philanthropic activities.
"Malaking tulong ito para sa mga taong walang trabaho at sa mga kabataang di kayang tustusan ng kanilang mga magulang ang kanilang pagaaral," a barangay official said.
Chua added that the project is a big help to the unemployed and to the out-of-school youth whose parents could not afford to send them to school.
The formal turnover of the training centers and the land title to barangay officials was witnessed by ranking officials from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China led by Consul General Li Qin Feng and First Secretary Wang Jun, as well as officials of the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc.
