Feel relieved from the summer heat as the northern and eastern sections of Luzon, including Metro Manila will experience mild rains due to a cold front, state weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Wednesday.

Based on the PAGASA’s 5 a.m. weather bulletin last Wednesday, a cold front is affecting the northern and eastern sections of Luzon bringing moderate to strong northeasterly surface wind flow affecting northern and central Luzon.

PAGASA weather specialist Chris Perez explained that a cold front is the boundary of cold and dry air mass, and warm and humid mass. The cold and dry mass is the domineering factor that forms the cold front causing the rains.

This event would bring mostly cloudy skies with light rains to the areas in the northern and eastern sections of Luzon, including Metro Manila.

PAGASA weather observer Elson Dianela said areas that may experience light rains include Batanes Group of Islands, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Abra, La Union, Kalinga, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Pangasinan, Cagayan Valley, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Albay, Camarines Sur, Sorsogon, Catanduanes, and Metro Manila.

Likewise, the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies except for isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms, mostly over the eastern section.

PAGASA also said there will be moderate to strong winds coming from the northeast that will prevail over Northern and Central Luzon and the eastern sections of the rest of the country and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate blowing from the northeast with slight to moderate seas.

Metro Manila, in particular, is expected to feel lower temperatures between 24 degrees and 34 degrees Celsius Thursday.
