Wishlist: A South American Summer

Beautiful and breathtaking South America was designer Rajo Laurel’s inspiration for his Spring-Summer 2010 collection, “La Latina.” The Latin continent is a dream destination for Laurel, who has emerged as one of the most energetic fashion designers in the country.
Neutral-colored lace, linen, eyelet, embroidery, and ruffles abound in the collection, all evoking the relaxed romanticism of a Latina. White, nude, blue, and gray prevailed, while a few poppy red and coral orange were masterfully interspersed for a much needed contrast. Summoning the sumptuous Latin flavor, the shapes and silhouettes evoked a vision of characters one would imagine in a Gabriel Garcia Marquez or Laura Esquivel novel.
And, functioning within this Latin-themed splendor, Laurel’s collection is supported by a short film by emerging artists Jujiin Samonte and Shahani Gania. The film, Te Amare por Siempre (I Will Love You Forever), featured a story between an artist and his Latina lover, convincingly played by painter Kiko Escora and model Marita Ganse.
Laurel is excited for his upcoming South American trip. As for the rest of us, no need for the expensive travel package, Laurel has already transported us there.
