Jeson Patrombon continued his amazing winning run, this time claiming the scalp of No. 3 seed Dominic Thiem of Austria, 6-4, 6-3, to barge into the quarterfinal round of the Grade 1 ITF/LTAT Junior Tennis Championships Thursday in Nonthaburi, Thailand.

Emboldened by his three-set victory over 16th seed Campbell Johnson of the United States the other day, Patrombon mixed his shots well while attacking the net from time to time to take the sting out of his American rival.

Patrombon’s feat again outshone the victory of the more popular Francis Casey Alcantara.

Unlike Patrombon, Alcantara needed three sets to beat Australian qualifier James Duckworth, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.

The 17-year-old pride of Iligan City will next face Australian qualifier Andrew Whittington, who surprised fifth pick Ben McLachlan of New Zealand, 7-5, 6-0.

Alcantara will be pitted against ninth seed Jeong Suk-young of Korea, a 6-1, 6-4 winner over Kalle Averfalk of Sweden.

In the doubles, Patrombon and his partner, Nuttanon Kadchapanan of Thailand, suffered a 6-4, 6-2 defeat at the hands of American sixth seed Mitchell Krueger and Dane Webb, 6-4, 6-2, in the Round of 16.
