13 Reds, sympathizers captured in ComVal

MONKAYO, Compostela Valley – Thirteen alleged New People’s Army (NPA) rebels and their sympathizers were arrested by soldiers in Barangay Calaberan, Mount Diwata, here, over the weekend, a belated military report revealed Thursday.

Captain Emmanuel R. Garcia, chief of Public Affairs Office (PAO) of Army’s 10th Infantry (Agila) Division, said the suspects were apprehended by soldiers last Sunday.

Garcia reported that operating troops of the Army’s 25th Infantry Battalion (IB) captured eight rebels – three of them alleged team leaders and a medical officer – belonging to the Local Terrorist Front 20 of the NPA’s Southern Mindanao Regional Command (SMRC).

At least five supporters of the NPA were also apprehended in the operation of the 25th IB.

Their arrest came two days after a clash between the government troops and the rebels which left one soldier dead and three others wounded in the village of Salvacion in Monkayo.

Garcia identified them as Edmund Qutor alias Jake, team leader of Team Baking, Squad-1, Sentro de Gravidad (SDG), Local Terrorist Front-20 (LTF-20); Mary Grace Villaneso alias Inday, medic, Squad-5, SDG, LTF-20; Alfonso Mangubat, alias Ponsing, member, SDG, LTF-20,; Francisco Linantod Jr. alias James, medic, Team Kaloy, Squad-2, SDG, LTF-20; Cristina Arances alias Tinang, 14 years old (currently pregnant), medic, Sandatahang Yunit Pampropaganda (SYP), LTF-20; Roy Villaneso alias James, Team leader, Team Abe, Squad-3, SDG, LTF-20; Mary Jane Yurong @ Izzy, Medic, SYP, LTF-20; Boicy Villaneso alias Mark, Team leader, Team Kaloy, Squad-3, SDG, LTF-20.
