In a seeming reaction to surveys, which show his standing sliding in recent months, presidential aspirant Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III has finally let controversial sister, actress-TV host Kris Aquino join his campaign.

The younger Aquino, together with her husband, basketball player James Yap, joined her brother in Zamboanga.

It is the first time that the younger Aquino has joined the senator in the campaign trail.

Only a day before, a Social Weather Stations survey showed her brother statistically tied with Sen. Manuel Villar of the Nacionalista Party.

The survey showed that 36 percent of the 2,100 registered voters polled from February 24 to February 28 were for Aquino while 34 percent rooted for Villar.

In an ambush interview at the airport, the actress admitted she is among those worried about the plunge of his brother’s approval rating.

"Actually, it would be too plastic not to own up and declare that I am not worried they’re (the opponent’s camp) is closing in but we’re very confident we’ll rise again,” she told reporters.

The younger Aquino was a surprise, late addition to her brother’s entourage and her appearance made an immediate impact.

She said she took time out of her hectic schedule to visit Zamboanga, as the place is “special” to their family.

“This is where Noy came to pray and made the decision to run for president,” she said.

Over 50,000 supporters came to loudly applaud Kris at the sortie, who appeared on stage clad in a black top with a small yellow map of the Philippines stitched heart-side.

“During the time of my father Ninoy and my mother Cory, Zamboanga loved the Aquino family," she said, her statement met by wild cheers.

“I have proven time and again that we’re not alone on this. Now I ask of you, on May 10, I hope you don’t forget: Noynoy Aquino,” she said before exhorting the crowd to chant her brother’s name.

The controversial host, who just recently got embroiled in a brouhaha involving the mother-daughter tandem of Ruffa Guiterrez and Annabelle Rama, took the opportunity to comment on the issue.

In a seeming rejoinder to what Rama said a few days ago, the younger Aquino said it was "unfair" to call her “arrogant."

“Our mother did not raise me to become an arrogant person because I know that what we have, we owe it to you," she said.

To critics who said she will turn Malacañang into something akin to her showbiz talk show SNN if her brother becomes president, Kris simply said: "All I can say is, [if that would be the case] it would be good, because that means you will know everything that goes on in government."

Almost all of her statements were punctuated by strident cheers from the crowd.

Meanwhile, the younger Aquino also expressed reservations about living in Malacañang.

“I have my own house,” she quipped.

Before leaving for the airport, the younger Aquino made a promise: "If you will overwhelmingly vote for Noy, definitely I will return with Baby James. I will return with Noy and we'll meet again."

Kris said she would also be joining her brother’s caravan in Iloilo and Davao, possibly with son Baby James.

“We’ll break up with Noy to make sure that we will cover more ground,” she said.

In an interview with reporters after the event, Noynoy said he was overwhelmed by the massive show of support from Zamboanga City.

He thanked his sister and James for attending the sortie.

“They are both helpful. A lot of people had been asking for them. I thank them for coming…and taking some of the attention off me,” he said smiling.

Meanwhile, the camp of Nacionalista Party standard-bearer Senator Manny Villar Jr. downplayed the news.

Villar's wife, Las Piñas City Representative Cynthia Villar, said although Kris's presence in Aquino's campaign sorties will be an asset, they have their own assets.

"Every campaign has its assets and liabilities. I think she will be an asset, and we have many assets also. So it's fair," Villar told “Headstart's” host Karen Davila.
