So he can’t be on TV yet. So what?

The old “Tonight Show” host, Jay Leno, may have taken back the show he bequeathed to Conan O’Brien after a miserably failed attempt at a prime-time show, but O’Brien will not let that stop him.

Barred from appearing on TV before September 1, 2010 as part of his $45 million exit package, O’Brien decided to take his act on the road. Dubbed the “Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour,” O’Brien takes his act on a 30-city theater tour in about 20 sates in the U.S. and two Canadian provinces.

He was saying, “It was either a massive 30-city tour or start helping out around the house.”

He also described that the shows would be “a night of music, comedy, hugging, and the occasional awkward silence,” on his website, www.teamcoco.com. He will be joined by his former “Tonight Show” band and his trusted sidekick, Andy Richter.

Big on the social networking scene and attracting younger and more dynamic audiences who are also active online, O’Brien has also taken to announcing his plans on his Twitter page. On Thursday, he posted: “Hey Internet: I'm headed to your town on a half-assed comedy & music tour... I repeat: It's half-assed.”

Reuters reports that O’Brien’s itinerary brings him to New York's Radio City Music Hall, just steps from where he first gained fame as a “Late Night” host. He also visits the Gibson Amphitheater in Universal City, California, near the studio where he presided over "The Tonight Show" for eight months.

And despite not having a show to do every night, the busy comedian will also be seen making a stop at Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, which takes place between June 10-13 in Tennessee. He is not only set to bring the laughs at comedy tent, but he is also reportedly going to emcee the festival’s largest music stage on June 11 and 12. Not a bad gig for someone who’s had to give up American TV’s most coveted hosting job.

During his eight-month stint on the “Tonight Show,” his fans had christened him Coco and they subsequently put up a Facebook page called “I’m with Coco” when he bowed out from his “Tonight Show” hosting stint at NBC.

His online fanbase was abuzz when the tour dates were announced but some one million or so fans lamented that he wouldn’t be stopping in their towns.

While he hasn’t made any announcements regarding plans to return to TV, perhaps the red-haired Irish jokester would soon consider adding more dates to his itinerary.
