Baker, 1st convicted gun ban violator in Cebu
CEBU CITY – A baker became the first person in Cebu convicted in court for violating the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban.
Regional Trial Court Judge Silvestre Maamo Jr. sentenced Argie Alceda to a maximum of two years imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to violating Section 261 of Presidential Decree 881 in relation to the Comelec Resolution 8714, otherwise known as the Comelec Gun Ban.
Court records showed that Alceda was apprehended inside the Cebu port’s passenger terminal when the x-ray machine operator spotted the gun stashed inside a motorcycle tire together with his luggage.
Responding police officers found a .38-caliber revolver with four live bullets in the said luggage.
Alceda was about to board a vessel on his way to Iligan City when he was arrested.
