Ace comedian Dolphy is hot on the campaign trail, not as a political candidate, but as a celebrity endorser.

After figuring prominently in the tri-media campaign for Nacionalista Party standard bearer Senator Manny Villar, Dolphy publicly declared support to his long-time friend Mayor Alfredo Lim, who is seeking reelection under the Liberal Party–Laban para sa Kapayapaan, Katarungan at Kaunlaran (KKK) coalition.

This was announced by Dolphy when he graced the birthday bash of National Press Club (NPC) director and DWIZ radio commentator Percy Lapid on Friday evening at the Bulwagang Plaridel of the National Press Club in Intramuros, Manila. Mayor Lim was also present during the affair which took place during the club's weekly Celebrity Night.

The comedy king acknowledged Lim as a good friend from the time the latter started as a low-ranking policeman in the beat patrol of the then-Manila Police Department.

“Ang totoo, meron pa akong isang hinahangaan, taga Tondo rin, aba e siyempre, ang ating mahal dito na Mayor (Lim) na walang katalo-talo,” Dolphy said during a gathering of newsmen at the NPC.

“Aba eh saan kayo makakakita na limang beses na nag-TOYM award… nakasama ko yan pulis pa lang, private pa lang.”

Dolphy and Mayor Lim, who both listen to Lapid’s radio program, “Lapid Fire,” were reunited after several years during the birthday bash.

Lapid said the duo who are both in their 80s are “different from those who are just friends; they may not see each other often but they remain very close. They also have that mutual respect for each other – despite the apparent difference in character.”

Dolphy said he is committed to support Lim out of friendship and not for monetary consideration.
“Hanggang naging kabo, tenyente, kapitan, colonel, heneral, nagging chief of police ng Quezon City, naging chief of police ng Maynila at naging chief ng NBI. Saan pa kayo makakakita ng ganyang track record. Ang track record niyan pambihira, at saka limang beses naging TOYM award,” Dolphy said.

“Naging abugado, naging senador, ipinagpalit niya ang senador para maging mayor, iniwan niya ang senador pagka-tatlong taon makapagsilbi lang sa mga taga-Maynila.”

Lim, for his part, said he is grateful to the support of Dolphy in his political campaign as he acknowledged their humble beginnings.

“Pareho kami ni Pareng Freddie (Mayor Alfredo Lim) na nasa otso na,” said Dolphy. ““Do you remember, pare, that time when you were still a patrolman and you were running after some criminals and you accidentally shot a horse?”

What Dolphy was referring to was when Lim fired off a warning shot to ask the criminal he was running after to peaceably surrender. Unfortunately, the bullet ricocheted and hit a horse nearby.

“Nagastusan tuloy ako ng P50 para sa pagpapagamot nung kabayo,” Lim said.
