GMA Network, through the GMA Kapuso Foundation (GMAKF), recently held another blood donation activity at the GMA Network Studios to service underprivileged Filipinos and to reinforce its equity as Kapuso.

Dubbed Kapuso Bloodletting Day, the event enjoined GMA Network employees to once again donate blood to the Philippine Red Cross (PRC).  A total of 167 bags of blood were collected this year for the 1,000 PRC beneficiaries from different provinces nationwide.

GMA Network Chairman, President, and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon underscored the collective efforts of the Network in demonstrating the essence of Serbisyong Totoo. “Even as we continue to reap success, we should not forget that we also have great responsibilities to the communities we serve,” Gozon said.

Gozon was doubly happy because while the Network continues to deliver good financial and ratings performances, the company remains grounded to actively work for social progress through the GMAKF. “Ang pag-donate ng sariling dugo sa Philippine Red Cross ay hindi ordinaryong bagay (Donating blood for Philippine Red Cross is not an ordinary thing).  By this gesture, you unselfishly give a precious part of yourself.  With this endeavor we can collectively help save lives and make a bigger difference,” he said to the Network employee-volunteers during the event.

Meanwhile, GMAKF Executive Vice President Mel Tiangco stressed that the Foundation is in constant pursuit of social progress through responding to dire needs of the underserved. “The Foundation desires to provide a Network-wide service to PRC’s beneficiaries through this activity. The blood donated will benefit the people the Foundation targets to service,” Tiangco said.

GMAKF Executive Director Arnel Hiloma agreed. “Through this activity, we hope that we would save lives of people who are in need of blood. ‘Yung dugong alay, pandugtong ng buhay (the blood offered can lengthen the lives of people),” Hiloma said.

In celebration of the Network’s 60th anniversary, the bloodletting activity this year expanded to enjoin Kapuso viewers in Cebu and Davao. GMA Regional TV mounted the event in these provinces as part of the regular “Barangayan Activity.”

Also present during the event at the Network Studios were PRC Governor Rosa Rosal, PRC Director for National Blood Services Dr. Christie Monina Nalupta, and PRC Blood Services Quezon City Chapter Chairman Dr. Hermogenes Jarin.

A jam session at the GMA Network complex was simultaneously held with the bloodletting activity. Kapuso stars Geoff Taylor and Julie Ann San Jose serenaded the crowd during the Network’s Heart’s (Bloodletting) Day.
