Many Filipinos are saying that the recently concluded Pacquiao-Clottey fight, dubbed “The Event,” was the Pacman’s most “boring” bout.

It’s not that they were unhappy with Pacquiao’s performance. Pacquiao was at his usual fiery best during the bout throwing as many big punches as he is wont to do in every fight.

Alas, Clottey, the bigger, stronger looking Ghanaian decided to run and shield himself all throughout the fight.

Indeed, many of those who paid to watch the fight live in theaters across the country thought Clottey, at the very least, “wanting.”

“Clottey was too scared of Manny,” one said. “He’d rather hide than fight. I should’ve just stayed at home.”

“And I queued for this? Manny should have just waited for Mayweather. Clottey was not worth it. He only looks menacing but he is too cowardly,” echoed another.

“Clottey was only in [that fight] for the money, not ma-nny,” offered an analyst.

Jinkee Pacquiao agrees with most fans and critics, who, during the victory party held after the fight, exclaimed: “Yeah, medyo boring [on the part of Clottey].”

Freddie Roach, Pacquiao’s coach was as disenchanted with Clottey as anybody.

"I'm disappointed [in Clottey]," Roach said. "He's fighting for the title and he fought like he didn't want to win it."

“If I was (Clottey’s) trainer, I would have told him to engage a lot more because that’s the only way to win fights,” said Roach.

“He was satisfied with going the distance with Manny Pacquiao. HBO will never use him again. I know… they told me.”

Boring or not, Dionisia Pacquiao, wants her son to retire from the dangerous sport.

"I wish he would listen to me and retire from boxing. He should just focus on his businesses, with the help of his wife," Dionisia told reporters in Filipino.

“His opponents are getting bigger. It’s really scary. It’s hard for me to even think of him being punched… all bloodied up. I can’t take it anymore.”

Dionisia, was holed inside the prayer room at the Pacquiao mansion at Lagao village in General Santos City during the Pacquiao-Clottey fight. At her side was Pacquiao’s youngest daughter, Queen Elizabeth, and the boxer’s eldest sister Liza Onding. She was clutching a satchel, which supposedly contained a little statuette of a Sto. Nino. At one point, she wailed and almost lost consciousness.

She admitted that it was the longest time she stayed in the prayer room.

“Three hours,” she noted.

When asked whether she would rather see her son in politics, Dionisia said she would rather that he keeps out of it. However, she avers that she “can't do anything” if her son pushes through with his plans.

“I’ll just keep on praying for him," she said.
