IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay -- The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has dismissed a disqualification case filed by a local Barangay official against a son of former Zamboanga del Norte Rep. Romeo G. Jalosjos after the poll body noted that the verification attached to the disqualification move was not notarized in accordance with the 2004 Rules on Notarial Practice.

A copy of the Comelec decision was furnished this correspondent recently by Ipil-based lawyer Richard Rambuyong, legal counsel of Jalosjos.

The Comelec second division, chaired by Commissioner Nicodemo T. Ferrer noted that petitioner Erasmo sought to cancel the Certificate of Candidacy (COC) of respondent Romeo Jalosjos Jr. for the position of congressional representative for the second district of Zamboanga Sibugay for the May 2010 elections, on the ground that respondent Jalosjos allegedly made a material misrepresentation in his COC presenting therein that he is a resident of barangay Veterans Village in Ipil town.
