1,376 guns seized nationwide — Verzosa

VIGAN CITY — Director General Jesus Verzosa, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, announced here Tuesday that a total of 1,376 assorted firearms have already been confiscated in the ongoing implemantation of the nationwide election gun ban.

With this accomplishment, Verzosa was elated as he assured the strict implementation of the total gun ban during the election period to ensure the honest, orderly and peaceful elections (HOPE) on May 10, 2010.

The total gun ban is being implemented under Commission on Elections (Comelec) Resolution 8714.
Of the initial total of gun ban violators, he disclosed that some of them were members of the PNP and other law enforcement agencies.

“Those PNP members who will catch to violate the Comelec total gun ban resolution will face criminal and administrative charges,” he said.

“Under the rule, those PNP members are not allowed to carry firearms while they are wearing civilian clothes; only those uniformed PNP members will allow to carry firearms while performing their duties,” he explained.
