Arcilla leads Bacolod winners
RP Davis Cupper Johnny Arcilla launched his title bid with an unforgiving, 6-1, 6-1, win over Richard Inciong of Manila at the start of hostilities in the Bacolod tennis competition last Tuesday.
Flashing the old, deadly form that made him the country’s former No. 1, Arcilla gave his unheralded foe no chance as he led the march of other opening day winners that include the promising 14-year-old Bacolod netter Jacob Lagman, who made a lot of heads turn when he thumped Divinagracia, 6-2, 6-7, 6-1.
Other opening day results saw Rolando Ruel defeating Clarence Cordero of Bacolod, 6-1, 6-0, Patrick John Tierro whipping Patrick Escobar of Bacolod, 6-1, 6-0, Arquiza Kim Saraza beating A. Rodriguez, 6-0, 6-1, Michael Mantua downing Gerard Bergara, 6-1, 6-1, Arthur Tafalla trouncing Gelo Gustilo, 6-4, 6-3 and Ralph Kevin shocking Paul Millendez of Bacolod, 6-1, 6-1.
The singles champion takes home the top prize of P25,000 while the runner-up and third placer receive P15,000 and P7,000, respectively. The doubles champion gets P15,000 while the second, third and fourth placers will bank P7,000, P4,000, and P2,000, respectively.
