The General Trias Dairy Processing Center has found a new home in a brand new building in Brgy Santiago, General Trias, Cavite. The processing plant used to be housed in a small and dilapidated building in Brgy.. Sampalukan near the public market.
The new building and facilities were inaugurated recently attended by Department of Agriculture Assistant Secretary Dennis Araullo, together with Dr. Libertado Cruz of the Philippine Carabao Center based in Los Banos, In Kim of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (Koica) and General Trias Mayor Luis ‘Jon-Jon’ Ferrer IV.
Mayor Ferrer said that the new building was constructed at a cost of P6,520,000. One million was spent for the land where the building stands; P2.5 million for the construction of the building; P220,000 for fencing and cementing of the perimeter; and P2.8 million for the dairy processing facilities courtesy of the Philippine Carabao Center. The General Trias Processing Center is the first in Calabarzon to be operated by a cooperative.
The GDRMPC, a multi-purpose cooperative, headed by municipal agriculture official Nerissa Marquez, has been operating the processing center that has been producing white cheese, kasilyo, pastillas, yoghurt, milk-o-jelly, fresh carabao’s milk, chocomilk and strawberry milk.
The Carabao Center has been responsible in promoting dairying among farmers not only in Cavite but also in other parts of the country. It has been dispersing Murrah buffaloes, both male and female, to improve the native carabaos. Crossbrede Murrah buffaloes have bigger bodies and produce more milk.
