The Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC) Wednesday assured Senator Loren Legarda of the party's total support to her vice presidential bid as it denied reports that NPC officials have shifted their support to another candidate.

"It’s malicious and unfounded," said NPC spokesman Rep Rex Gatchalian of the first District of Valenzuela City, on reports that key NPC officials are now supporting another candidate. The report did not mention the name of another vice presidential candidate allegedly being supported by top NPC officials.

Gatchalian described the effort of their political rivals as a desperate move to create dissent within their party by spreading false and malicious rumors about the alleged change of support from the lady senator towards another candidate.

“We would like to stress that the NPC leadership and its members are fully behind the candidacy of Sen. Legarda and we are confident that she will emerge victorious in the coming elections” Gatchalian said in a press statement.

He emphasized that the NPC which remains the second biggest party in the country is fully supporting Sen.Legarda’s advocacies of saving the environment, championing the causes of women and children and protecting the interests of overseas Filipino workers and their families.

“The false and malicious reports about the change of support is another desperate attempt by some of her opponents to drive a wedge among the NPC leadership and in the process create confusion in Sen. Legarda’s vice-presidential bid” Gatchalian explained, adding “but they are in for a big surprise because the NPC remains solid as ever and is 100 percent behind Sen.Legarda’s candidacy.”

As proof that the NPC is solidly behind Legarda, both Pangasinan Rep. Mark Cojuangco and his father, NPC founder Ambassador Eduardo “Danding”Cojuangco have reiterated their earlier expressions of support to Sen.Legarda's bid.
