Residents of Northern Luzon are in for cooler days due to a passing cold front bringing cloudy skies and light rains in the provinces up north, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

According to Nathaniel Cruz, PAGASA deputy administrator for operations and services, a passing cold front at the tip of Northern Luzon is expected to bring mostly cloudy skies and light rains in the provinces of Northern Luzon until Sunday.

“The provinces in Northern Luzon will experience lower temperatures because of the expected cloudiness with a possibility of light rains,” Cruz said.

Cold front occurs when a cold air mass pushes into a warmer air mass causing gusty winds, a drop in temperature, and rains.

Cold air is so dense that it is able to quickly push a warm air mass ahead of it.

However, Cruz said the cold front passing at the extreme Northern Luzon will not directly affect Metro Manila and Southern Luzon.

“In Metro Manila and Southern Luzon, including the Visayas and Mindanao, the current frontal system will have no effect on these areas. Metro Manila and Southern Luzon will have the same warm and humid weather,” he pointed out.

The PAGASA weather bulletin also said that there will be moderate to strong northeasterly surface wind flow affecting the eastern sections of the country.

The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies except for isolated rain showers or thunderstorms mostly over the eastern sections.
