Binay's son warns of fake surveys
The camp of Makati mayoral candidate Jejomar Erwin “Jun-jun” Binay Thursday warned against the proliferation of fake survey results as allegedly conducted by the Social Weather Stations (SWS), claiming that Vice Mayor Ernesto Mercado is leading over the young Binay.
The claims were done via text messaging, he said.
“If there is indeed such a survey done by the SWS as claimed by the camp of Mercado, then why are they circulating it through text messages instead of presenting it to the media?” he questioned.
A Pulse Asia survey conducted last Feb. 13-14 showed Binay with a commanding lead, with 50 percent share of the votes in Makati. Mercado has 20 percent share, while Genuino has 17 percent.
“Despite all the resources that he has dispensed and his so-called organization, his numbers have not moved significantly. This is why he has resorted to disinformation and mudslinging, especially when he talks to Makati residents,” said Lito Anzures, Binay spokesman. “This is another propaganda attempt meant to show a tight race when in fact, Jun-jun Binay has a commanding lead over all the other candidates, especially Mercado.”
He claimed that this is not the first time Mercado’s camp circulated texts that they are leading in the SWS survey. Just this January, he charged, Mercado sent text messages claiming that an SWS survey commissioned by the Makati Business Club (MBC) showed him leading over Binay.
But MBC Executive Director Alberto Lim begged to differ. “We categorically deny that the Makati Business Club has commissioned SWS or any other group to conduct such a survey,” he said.
