Aquino, Duterte win in Ateneo Davao polls
DAVAO CITY - Liberal Party standard bearer Senator Benigno Aquino III was the preferred president and incumbent Vice Mayor Sara Duterte was the choice for city chief executive in the recently concluded mock polls by the Ateneo de Davao University system.
Conducted last Saturday and Monday, at least 25 percent of the 7,978 voting population of the university system consisting of students, faculty, and staff participated in the mock election where they chose their preferred president and vice president, including mayor and vice mayor for Davao City residents only.
Organized by the Political Engagement Committee of the university which was also responsible for its recent Panaghisgut hisgut presidential forum, the mock polls showed that despite his no show in the presidential forum, Aquino still won by garnering 938 votes.
Coming in second is Gilbert "Gibo" Teodoro with 689 votes followed by Sen. Richard "Dick" Gordon with 152 votes. Sen. Manny Villar and Joseph Estrada came in fifth and sixth with 81 and 61 votes respectively.
Aquino's running mate Mar Roxas also led the vice presidential race with 1,341 votes. A far second was Jojo Binay with 315 votes with Bayani Fernando coming in third with 150 votes. Loren Legarda, Perfecto Yasay and Edu Manano followed with 80, 26 and 22 votes respectively.
For the local candidates, incumbent Vice Mayor Sara Duterte registered a considerable lead over House Speaker Prospero "Boy" Nograles who are both running for mayor.
