Prosecutors clear G-Dragon on obscenity complaint

G-Dragon, leader of K-pop group Big Bang, is off the hook.
The pop star was cleared by prosecutors in the obscenity complaint filed against him in connection with his first solo concert last December, where critics said he performed songs that were "inappropriate" especially since teenagers were among his main audience.
The Korean Ministry of Health, Welfare and Family Affairs filed the case against G-Dragon and YG Entertainment after receiving complaints in connection with the former’s “Shine A Light” concert in Seoul.
Concerned parents accused the pop star of obscenity when he and a female dancer allegedly simulated a sexual act on stage while singing “Breathe.”
Criticisms mounted soon after the show, prompting YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun-suk to issue an apology.
Prosecutors ruled that G-Dragon did not violate Korea’s child protection law but fined YG Entertainment, G-Dragon’s agency, 3 million won (about $2,658).
Prosecutors noted that G-Dragon, being an artist under YG Entertainment, only acted based on the instructions of his agency.
YG Entertainment said it would remove the controversial number in a DVD of the concert that will soon be released.
