Ruffa Gutierrez: All for peace, hard work

Beauty queen and TV host Ruffa Gutierrez refuses to fuel the controversy she figured in recently with Queen of All Media Kris Aquino on their show “The Buzz.”
“Tapos na 'yong issue na 'yon kaya wag na nating ungkatin pa. I have said my piece and so has she. Sa ‘The Buzz’ nagumpisa, sa ‘The Buzz’ din nagtapos ang issue,” Ruffa said on March 18 during the press conference for her forthcoming movie “Working Girls 2010.”
Recall that Ruffa was unable to finish hosting “The Buzz” two weeks ago, after she burst into tears in her dressing room because of an on-air comment Kris made about her transfer to TV5. The brouhaha ran for several days and reached its climax on March 14 when Kris said that she has been thinking of quitting “The Buzz” because of the incident.
“Na-shock ako---and the whole world, I think--- sa bigla niyang pagiyak [sa show]. But I was on the phone then, so di ko narinig ng mabuti ang mga nangyari that time,” Ruffa said.
She insists, though, that everything is “fine” between them and that they are at “peace”---despite Kris not texting or calling her up since the “episode.”
“But I wrote her a note and gave her flowers,” Ruffa said. “Siguro naman it’s okay kung magbigay ako ng flowers sa kanya dahil tatlong taon din naman kaming nagsama sa show, di ba? It’s rude naman if I didn’t, kasi I gave Boy (Abunda, their other co-host) flowers and pizza to the writers.”
The “peace offering” doesn’t stop there. Ruffa plans to give Kris a cellphone!
“Since bagong endorser ako ng Nokia, why not, di ba? I know naman she can afford [to buy a cellphone], but I’d like to give her one as well,” she said.
What if Kris still doesn’t apologize to her personally?
“Kung desisyon n’ya yon, I will respect it. Basta ang alam ko, okay na kami.”
The beauty queen said that more than her issue with Kris, she is concerned about the arrival of her ex-husband Yilmaz Bektas in Manila next month.
Though they have been texting each other again since parting ways a few years back, Ruffa admits they’ve not had a serious talk about their future as parents to Lorin and Venice, especially now that the court has granted Ruffa sole custody of their daughters.
“Maybe that talk will happen kapag andito na siya sa Manila. He knows about the court’s decision---and I’ll give him a copy of the document once he’s here---kaya nga he requested lang na walang media scrutiny when he comes. Sabi niya, he wants to bring the kids to the beach and spend time with them privately.
“Ngayon, kung di naman mainit ang ulo niya, I’ll join them. Dun na lang kami mag-uusap,” Ruffa said.
She confirmed that the kids still carry the surname Bektas, but denied that she plans to ask Yilmaz for child support.
“If he wants to give [financial support], why not? Pero ayoko namang humingi pa kasi kaya ko namang suportahan ang mga bata. Kung ano man ang ibigay niya sa mga bata, extra na lang 'yon.”
Regarding rumors about Shaina Magdayao and John Lloyd [who was linked to Ruffa last year] flying together to Bangkok recently, Ruffa stopped further questions with a single statement.
“It’s none of my business whom John Lloyd dates, sees, or wants to be seen with. Like last year, we’re still friends, good friends. Hindi na dapat ako tinatanong [tungkol dyan], di ko naman siya asawa o kapatid o kamag-anak,” she said.
For now, Ruffa would like to concentrate on work---particularly “Working Girls 2010” in which she plays the role of Marilou, the beauty queen widow of a rich man forced to fight her way to find justice amid the hostile relatives of her late husband determined to cut her off completely from her inheritance.
Although Ruffa hasn’t seen the first “Working Girls,” she knows how critically and commercially successful it was. She intends to watch the original before they wrap up shooting on its sequel.
According to a press release, GMA Films, Viva Films, and Unitel, along with director Jose Javier Reyes, carefully selected who will play what in the film. The other actresses who make up the cast of “Working Girls 2010” are Eugene Domingo, Cristine Reyes, Eula Valdez, Iza Calzado, Jennelyn Mercado and Bianca King, along with Cherie Gil, Mylene Dizon, Carmi Martin, Gina Pareno, Maria Isabel Lopez and Rio Locsin.
“Working Girls” will hit theaters on April 21, 2010.
