Jasmine Al-Khaldi swam to a new Philippine record while Jose Gonzalez secured a Youth Olympic Games ticket as the Filipinos made their presence felt in their separate events at the Singapore National Age-Group Championships.

Al-Khaldi clocked 28.62 seconds in the girls’ 50m butterfly to eclipse the previous women’s record of 28.89 set by Erica Totten at the 2006 Doha Asian Games.

The former Palarong Pambansa standout, however, missed the Youth Olympic Games qualifying B time of 28.41sec by a hairline, although Al-Khaldi has already qualified in the 200m freestyle two days ago.

Gonzalez, meanwhile, timed 2:9.19 in the boys’ 200m backstroke, surpassing the qualifying B time of 2:10.11.

He became the fifth Youth Olympic Games qualifier, joining Al-Khaldi, Jessie King Lacuna, Banjo Borja and Dorothy Hong.

Aside from achieving qualifying times in the 100m and 200m free, Lacuna also smashed the 400m free qualifying B time of 4:09.91 by recording 3:59.75.

The Youth Olympic Games is scheduled on Aug. 14 to 26 also in Singapore.
