There’s a possibility for the suspended Air21 point guard Wynne Arboleda to play in the PBA Fiesta Cup.

A source, who requested anonymity because he’s not allowed to divulge information on the matter, revealed that the Air21 management appealed to PBA commissioner Sonny Barrios to cut short the suspension slapped on the 5-foot-11 Arboleda, who mauled a fan during a game in the Philippine Cup.

The source told the Bulletin that Barrios might give in to the request because of Arboleda’s “good” conduct after the incident, as well as the positive feedback from other players.

The league commissioner is not available for comment as of presstime.

PBA chairman Lito Alvarez, the Air21 representative to the board, said he has no information on whether Arboleda will be allowed to play or not, but he confirmed the 9-year guard’s effort to talk to the team captain of other ball clubs.

“He talked to all the team captains. He wanted to know if there’s any resistance if he would come back. But there’s none, no resistance. The feedback was very positive,” Alvarez said.

“Besides, this is his livelihood. He also suffered so much and has done well off the court. So I guess it’s about time,” he added.

Arboleda, 32, was suspended for the rest of the PBA season after mauling Alain Katigbak during an exhibition game with the Smart-Gilas national team last October. Aside from the suspension, the penalty includes without pay for one year, which is approximately P2.73 million.

The Air21 Express, led by fiery coach Yeng Guiao, will open their Fiesta Cup campaign on Wednesday against defending champion San Miguel Beer at the Araneta Coliseum.
