Binay’s political adviser wounded in ambush
A political adviser of Pwersa ng Masa (PMP) vice presidential candidate and Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay was wounded in an ambush staged by unidentified armed men in Cainta, Rizal, Sunday morning.
Senior Superintendent Jessie Cardona, Pasig City police chief, identified the victim as Gerardo Limlingan.
Quoting sketchy reports, Cardona told the Manila Bulletin that the victim was driving his Hyundai Sta. Fe along East Bank Road, Barangay San Andres, around 11:40 a.m. when the gunmen struck.
The attackers, riding in tandem on a motorcycle, cut the path of the sports utility vehicle (SUV). When it stopped, one of the assailants aimed and opened fire, hitting Limlingan in the foot.
The assailants sped off immediately after the shooting.
Cardona said the victim was rushed by concerned bystanders to the Medical City hospital in Pasig City. Probers of the Cainta, Pasig and Makati Police Offices are now involved in the investigation of the attack on Limlingan.
