500,000 households commit to Earth Hour in Cordillera
BAGUIO CITY — Some 500,000 households in different parts of Cordillera vowed to do more in the forthcoming celebration of Earth Hour on Saturday.
Instead of turning their lights off for one hour, most residents, businessmen and various sectors informed organizers of the Earth Hour that they will extend their energy conservation effort to two hours or even more.
From 8:30 p.m. onwards on Saturday, most parts of the region will turn dark. The campaign of Earth Hour 2010 has been realized by most people in this region.
Local officials have made their constituents understand that the simple act of participating in Earth Hour 2010, when done in unison with the rest of the world, may greatly help in the fight against climate change and global warming.
To bolster the participation of most Cordillerans in the celebration of Earth Hour, the Regional Development Council (RDC) issued appropriate orders to compel the active participation of the people in the activity.
Even multinational companies in the different parts of the region have committed support for Earth Hour 2010 by reducing their use of power.
