BAGUIO CITY — The leadership of the Liberal Party (LP) here Sunday belittled the efforts of some sectors to come out with a failure of election scenario that could allegedly lead to the installation of President Arroyo as a holdover president, saying that the broad front of Filipinos will not allow a mockery of the Philippine Constitution.

Florencio Abad, LP overall campaign manager, said the awareness of Filipinos on the grand design of some sectors to make the sitting President as a holdover once there will be a failure of elections should serve as a signal for her allies not to push through with their motive to muddle the issue just to allegedly suit their own personal and political interests.

By the looks of its, he claimed, everything is slowly being put in place by Palace allies in order for Mrs. Arroyo to hold on to power even after June 30 as provided in the Constitution for her to relinquish the presidency to whoever will be declared as the winner in the May 2010 elections.

While admitting that there are some flaws in the LP just like other political parties, Abad said that everything is being done to patch up whatever differences that may crop up even in the local level to sustain their strength going into the final half of the campaign which is vital in determining their winnability.

At the same time, Avelino Cruz, LP general counsel, said volunteers are closely watching the printing of the ballots for the elections at the National Printing Office (NPO) in order to make sure that there will be no alleged maneuverings by those in power just to suit their own interests.

However, he called on the public to guard their votes considering that there were alleged efforts to deprive legitimate opposition candidates of their right to know the source code of the precinct count optical scan (PCOS) machines coupled with the fact that some security measures in the ballots were deliberately removed that caused an alarm among them.
