An alliance of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) called Thursday for an urgent investigation into the reported death of a Filipina household helper in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), saying that the incident could be a foul play since it has not been reported to Philippine Embassy.

Migrante-Middle East identified the victim as one Rahima Jamal, 19. She was reportedly employed by a certain Mohammed Sala Sultan in Dubai.

Jamal’s body lie at the Saif Obaidullah hosputal in Ral Al Khaimah since she sought medical help for trauma and severe head injuries over a month ago.

An initial investigation conducted by the UAE police showed that the teenager died of bleeding after having jumped or pushed from a van.

“There were no external wounds, cuts, stabs and strangling marks on her body,’’ UAE police said.

“The Philippine Embassy and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) - OUMWA should immediately look and deeply investigate the reported death of Jamal,’’ said John Loenard Monterona, in a statement.

"This is a matter of concern to us and the Filipino community in the Emirates since her death has not been reported by the employer to the Philippine Embassy; foul play is not remote," he added.

Monterona also urged the Philippine post to inform the family of the teenager and extend all the necessary assistance needed.

He lamented that the death of the young worker happened after the host government passed a law providing protection to foreign workers, including OFWs.
