Clark targets 2 million air passengers a year
CLARK FREEPORT, Pampanga — The Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) is targeting to service two million passengers annually once it completes the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA) terminal facilities, here.
In an interview Thursday, CIAC Chairman Nestor S. Mangio expressed optimism that the CIAC Board’s efforts since 2007 will usher in massive growth in this area in the coming years as he envisioned a state-of-the-art global city rising in Central Luzon.
“We’ve had major accomplishments beginning with the inauguration of the P112-million project for the expanded passenger terminal, and the terminal radar approach control facility in April 2007,” said Mangio.
With three months left for the Arroyo Administration, Mangio said thanked the members of the CIAC Board, led by its president Victor Luciano, for their support particularly in the passage of the crucial agreement with Kuwait Gulf and the development of the 167-hectare global gateways of logistics city.
He also cited Singapore Airlines Engineering Company’s (SIAEC’s) entry, establishing a 10-hectare maintenance, repair and overhaul facility.
“We had our first groundbreaking for the first of five hangers in November 2008 in which SIAEC invested P120-million dollars. And now, they’re all in full operations,” said Mangio.
In June 2008, Miascor-Gate Gourment’s in-flight catering facility was also inaugurated – a US$1.3- investment.
The next phase of development projects for the CIAC is the expansion of Terminal 1, said Mangio.
“We at the CIAC worked hard for this and thank President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo for her support and vision. We expect the construction of the second floor of Terminal 1 and the installation of two passenger boarding bridges completed by June 2010,” he added.
Mangio also revealed that the CIAC Board is working on a proposal for a housing project to benefit all CIAC employees.
