New hospital aids Agusan remote areas
BUNAWAN, Agusan del Sur – In its continuing commitment to help residents of far-flung villages in the land-locked province of Agusan del Sur in the Caraga Region, a mining firm opened on Friday a newly built hospital at Barangay Upper Co-o in Barangay Consuelo, this town.
It was learned that the 18-bed hospital initiated by Philsaga Mining Corporation (PMC) that is amounting to P18 million is equipped with vital equipment and other supplies needed by patients.
It was also learned that the facility has a complete staff, ambulances, and other provisions for emergency cases.
The hospital has also quarters for its doctors and nurses.
The blessing and inauguration of the new hospital was attended by top provincial and municipal officials of the province, and towns of Rosario and Bunawan, respectively.
“Aside from our social program, this new hospital shows our continuing commitment to help far-flung villagers who are in need of health care services,” said retired Army Col. Samuel G. Afdal, president of PMC, during the inauguration rites.
“This is a continuing health program,” he added.
It was also gathered that the mining firm already constructed roads, schools, day-care and health centers, and water system that already amounted to some P78 million since it started its mining operation last 2000.
The mining firm had also planted at least one million trees in support of the government’s tree planting program to mitigate the effects of global warming and climate change.
With this, the company received several recognitions from both the government and private sectors for its environment preservation, forest protection, social, and development programs, it was gathered.
