“Ambulansyang de Paa,” a segment on GMA-7’s documentary program “I-Witness,” has earned the nod of the prestigious Peabody Awards.

The segment, created to highlight the efforts of a mountain community to transport the seriously ill through rugged trails, was aired in March 2009. It was hosted by Kara David and directed by Nowell Cuanang.

“Ambulansyang de Paa” is only one of 36 recipients of the award this year. The award is the latest for the broadcasting company, which has received similar awards for investigative reporting in the past.

Recall that in 1999, the “I Witness” episodes “Kidneys for Sale” by Jessica Soho and Jay Taruc’s “Child Labor” story on “Brigada Siyete” clinched the country’s first and second Peabody trophies, respectively.

According to the Peabody website, this year’s recipients represent the best in electronic media for 2009, including primetime series; made-for-TV scripted dramas; documentaries; news reports submitted from local television stations as well as from the major networks; radio dramas, news coverage and documentaries; and websites.
