Four Shows: A narrative of humanity

April 4, 2010, 1:38pm

The Galerie Joaquin Group celebrates summer with a bold venture to give art lovers a feast for the senses with the staging of Four Shows, solo exhibits by four of the best Philippine contemporary artists in one venue – the SM Art Center at the Art Walk of SM Megamall. Four Shows will be formally opened on April 14 and will run until April 21, with a preview on April 7-13.

In Four Shows, the gallery presents Lydia Velasco’s “Paradiso,” Jerry Morada’s  “Kinang,” Juanito Torres’s “Allegory,” and Buen Amigo’s “Indeterminacy.”

The omnibus exhibit brings together veteran and upcoming artists with very distinct styles of their own but as viewers will see, a single thread binds them. As exhibit curator Ruben Ramas Cañete says, “These (artists) aim to establish the narrative of the human subject as both a classic as well as a timely subject in our day and age, in which the themes of historical memory, psychological yearning, introspective visualization, serene contemplation, and the uncertainty of everyday survival rise and merge with the collective national experience.”

Given this commonality, the four artists nevertheless present an exciting melange of styles and widely divergent viewpoints as they mine their subjects and the events and conditions under which they create their art works.

Four Shows, may be viewed at the SM Art Center at the Art Walk of SM Megamall from April 14-21. For inquiries, call 723 9253 and 723 9418.
